Princeton’s Cornel West to Lecture on "the Age of Change"

Greenville, South Carolina —Princeton University professor and best-selling author Cornel West will speak at Furman University Thursday, March 18 as the Furman Chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) celebrates its founding and its future.

West will deliver the lecture “A Nation Unified: NAACP in the Age of Change” at 7 p.m. in Younts Conference Center. The event is free and open to the public and will include a 20-minute question-and-answer session after the lecture.

The Class of 1943 University Professor in the Center for African American Studies at Princeton, West has been called one of the nation’s most provocative public intellectuals, drawing from influences including the black Baptist church, progressive politics and jazz.

He has been praised by The New York Times for his “ferocious moral vision.” His book "Race Matters," published in 1993, is an analysis of racism in American democracy and has sold more than half a million copies. The latest of his 20 books is "Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud" (2009) West holds degrees from Harvard and Princeton, where he earned his doctorate. Dr. West is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
